If tomorrow doesn't come

If tomorrow doesn't come And today was our last I would stand in the grass With bare feet even in mud Turn my face up to the sun To absorb all the warmth That it brings to my heart Which got lost in mundane life If tomorrow doesn't come And my choice for the now Is to love or to cry I would have no wasteful time To shrivel up at past slights Nor to plan vengeful acts That would cut you down to size To exact your pain, my prize If tomorrow doesn't come Then that argument last night On the whys and the ifs Of the whats and the whens With the whos and the wheres Will be too much time spent On hollow hours thrown at swine Digging holes in each other's minds If tomorrow doesn't come I would lift my song to Christ Not through magic performing priests Who feed the eyes and drain the heart But be gentle and be kind To my neighbour on my side Who is tangible and blind To all things but his plight If tomorrow doesn't come I would relish in the minds Of my babies and their plans Of their simple grateful joy To be part of this earth It's abundance and great girth Why the grass was not made blue And why Pluto came unglued If tomorrow doesn't come Let me honour you, my love Let us dance under the stars And sway as one as only we can To the gentle melody of time Drink another glass of wine As we lie and count the stars And be grateful for our now If tomorrow doesn't come I am content and not contrite For right here, this moment, now I have lived an awesome life Fuller than one in all of time Full of love and joy and heart If tomorrow doesn't come It's okay. Today is now
